Special Events Coordinator

PAY RATE: 9.00 PER HOUR
HOURS: Variable. 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Sunday: 7am-2am, days & shifts vary with workload. Students who receive work study are encouraged to apply.

GENERAL:
The Special Events Coordinator is a paraprofessional student member of UCR Housing staff. Under the direct supervision of the Programs Manager, the Special Events Coordinator accepts general responsibility for all Barn programs, Welcome Week, Homecoming, large scale residence hall programs and any additional programs facilitated by the Programs Manager.
Expectations and Roles of the Special Events Coordinator:
(1) Student: Be a role model for students by demonstrating academic success in your own education.
(2) Role Model: Demonstrate appropriate behavior through actions, lead by example. Follow all UCR Housing, Barn facility and
University policies and procedures.
(3) Resource/Referral Person: Be familiar with policies and procedures of UCR Housing, Barn facility and campus resources, and
educate students accordingly.
(4) Staff member: Support Residence Life staff decisions and enforce policies and procedures; interpret and communicate
concerns and needs of the students to the administration; complete administrative duties and support fellow staff
members.
(5) Programmer: Plan, organize, promote, set up, clean up, and evaluate all Barn programming events, Welcome Week, Homecoming, large scale residence hall programs and any other additional programs facilitated by the Programs Manager. Specifically, assist with the planning and execution of the Fall Quarter 2008 Wednesday night concerts at the Barn.
(6) Equipment Technician: Pick up, deliver, set-up, operate and take-down equipment (lighting, audio, video, tables, chairs, etc.) for events. Assist Programs Manager and Resident Program Directors with inventory, repair, and replacement of Residential Life programming equipment.
(7) Liaison: Work with campus clubs/organizations, departments and the Residence Hall Association as programming
resources.
(8) Time Manager: Balance academic pursuits, job demands, and personal life effectively, giving priority to academic work,
and job obligations over all other areas of activity.
(9) Marketer: Generate weekly program posters or agendas to be presented at staff meetings. Occasionally solicit for prizes, written advertisements and procuring sponsorship for programs. Post all banners and flyers as needed. Maintain all bulletin boards and display cases in common areas of the Barn, residence halls, and campus. Maintain poster room supplies, program files and programming storage areas. Complete a minimum of 4 office hours weekly (Monday-Friday).
(10) Student Conduct: Educate students regarding community standards. Enforce student code of conduct, policies and
procedures and document incidents in a timely manner.
(12) Meeting Attendance: Attend staff meetings and one-on-one supervisory meetings as assigned by supervisor.
(13) Perform other duties as assigned.
The Special Events Coordinator will be trained to use the programming equipment in the residential life inventory. This position will also be trained on administrative tasks such as programming paperwork.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to attend all Fall Quarter 2008 Wednesday night concerts at the Barn. (4pm-11pm)
• Must be a UCR student in good academic and judicial standing.
• Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 throughout the academic year as well as complete a minimum of 12 units. S/NC grades are limited. UCR grade history will be reviewed.
• Must be and remain a full-time UCR registered student for the academic school; Must limit total class hours (including
labs) to 16 units, unless approved by supervisor.
• Must attend necessary training sessions, staff meetings, in-service sessions, staff development and retreats.
• Must return early as scheduled before the beginning of each quarter and remain until after closing at the end of each quarter and at the end of the year until released by supervisor.
• Must assist the Professional and Head Resident staff with other job related requests as needed throughout the year.
• Must be willing to assist other staff members and do your part to promote a team-oriented working environment.
• Must pass a background check.
